Water Damage Restoration

Restorative Drying

The main goal is to limit the cost of water damage (loss). Along with this is finding the source of moisture intrusion and stopping it. No restoration of microbial remediation can begin until the source and problem are corrected.

Goals:

  • Contain contaminated areas first. Determine risk assessment.
  • Classify the type of loss.
    • Category 1. Clean Water: does not pose potential harm to humans.
    • Category 2. Gray Water: significant levels of contamination, fungi, bacteria, viruses.
    • Category 3. Black Water: grossly unsanitary, pathogenic agents, sewage.
  • Dry from inside as well as surface. “Chase the moisture” with air moving equipment.
  • Initial tool of choice is “desiccant” dehumidifiers; then maintain with mechanical dehumidifiers.
  • Clean and decontaminate. Determine remediation process.
  • Confirm success by clearance tests (air cassette impact or tape lift).
